MY MOHTER

Sorrowful Mother Headstone,
Rapperswil Catholic Cemetery

I put my trust forever,
O Mary, pure, in thee.
Then show thyself a mother,
And daily succour me.
And when death's hand shall touch me,
Thy pity I implore;
Oh, lead me, dearest Mother,
To God―for evermore!

SINGULAR BRINGER FORTH

O Most Beautiful Flower of Mount Carmel, Fruitful Vine, Splendour of Heaven, Singular Bringer Forth of the Son of God, assist me in this my necessity.  (Here mention your need).

O Star of the Sea, help me, and show me herein that you are my My Mother.  O Holy Mary, Mother of God, Empress of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech thee from the bottom of my heart to succour me in this necessity;  there is nothing that can withstand your power.  O, show me herein that you are my Mother.

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.  (Three times.)

Sweet Mother, I place this casue in your hands.  (Three times.)

TREES

Trees

BY JOYCE KILMER - catholic poet
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

A HOUSE BLESSING

Swiss Evening - December, 1947 - Photo by Yale Joel

BLESS, O Lord Almighty, this place so that in it may reign health, purity, victory, strength, humility, kindness, sweetness, observance of rule and continued acts of thanksgiving to God the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.  May this blessing remain in this place with all who dwell in it and forever.  Amen.

BENEDICAMUS DOMINO

Near Wengen, Switzerland
Undated.
For the promises of Spring,
For the heron on the wing,
For the song the blackbirds sing.
Gracious Lord we thank Thee!

For the Summer's roses red,
For the fragrance sweet they shed,
For the cloudless skies o'erhead,
Gracious Lord we thank Thee!

For the Autumn's purple haze,
For the beauty of her ways,
For the fruitful harvest days
Gracious Lord, we thank Thee!

For the Winter, white and drear,
For the woodlands gaunt and sere,
For the passing of the year,
Gracious Lord, we thank Thee!

GREETING YOUR FRIENDS

Friends
Lugano, Switzerland - Date unknown

There is no better way for Christian friends to greet and part company than to say , "The Lord be with you." Your friend may rejoin "and with your spirit."

Now you can learn it in the beautiful language of the Church by using the simple translation below.  The Latin phrase is in blue with the translation directly beneath.  Remember that some words in English are implied in Latin so there is not a word for word translation.

Greeting:
Dóminus,      vobíscum.
The Lord       you with.

Response:
Et        cum      spíritu   tuo.
And     with      spirit   your.
